Process management - Maturity of the methodFor each company it is of high relevance
to know, if management decisions and required methods are fully implemented in an efficient
way. In the context of processes it addresses the opportunity to carry out an audit or
assessment by applying a maturity model.
The Kompetenzzentrum für
Prozessmanagement has developed within the BPM Club Germany, working group 'Excellence'
an innovative and unique maturity model with the collaboration of ten reputated
companies. Partnes have been Daimler Financial Services, T-Mobile, Bombardier, Kneip,
Ideal Versicherung, KHS, Dunlop Goodyear, Nordenia etc. The maturity model is named EDEN (Erfolgreich,
Durchgängig,
Effizient und
Nachhaltig), meaning successful, continuous, efficient, substantial. Thereby the overall
focus of this model is characterized.
It is the aim of this integrated
assessment including nine essential dimensions to embrace all major facts of a successful
implementation of the management method. With this focus 'EDEN' exceeds by far the already
existing maturity model - e.g. CMMI or Spice - which mostly focus an evaluating the
maturity of single processes.
By applying this structured
evaluation companies receives first an overall level status and second a list of weak points
regarding the excellence of handling a corporate process management. Examples: weaknesses can
be existing within the organisational structures not enabling process managers to carry out their
responsibilities or within the insufficient support of IT applications regarding the process
execution.
The maturity model 'EDEN' shows also a
matrix to position the current implementation status. With this matrix, paths to improve the status
are shown and roadmaps, which lead to a higher level in the future.
